"Yogas chitta vrtti nirodha"

"Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind" 

-Yoga Sutras 1.2

In the first few pages of the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali explains exactly what yoga is with this sutra that's translated into "Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind". Patanjali is telling us with this simple line that yoga is all about developing a better relationship with the mind, but what does the physical practice of yoga have to do with that?

Yoga is a complete wellness system. The aim of yoga practice to systematically strengthen all aspects of the self. The physical practice of yoga is designed to prepare the body to remain still for the more subtle practices like meditation.
